If an encounter is solely for chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or radiation therapy, the first reported diagnosis is:

a.) The diagnosis toward which the treatment is directed

b.) The appropriate Z51 code

c.) Either a or b

d.) Non of the above

Post your thoughts and check back here next week for the rationale.

The appropriate Z51 is the principal dx code, the malignancy for which the therapy is being administered should be assigned as the secondary dx.
