Codes 90846 and 90847 – Family therapy

If there are siblings that are both patients to the provider. They are both seen the same day and at the same time, same provider, same session. Could 90846/90847 be billed for each sibling? As long as there is separate documentation for each sibling?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, happy Friday :)

Good Afternoon-

In order to bill for both siblings the time would still have to be spent with the family separately focusing on one patient at a time. In other words they could not spend 30 minutes total and during that 30 minutes discuss both patients simultaneously and bill the payer for two separate sessions.

Hope that helps!
