Hi. CMS announced earlier this month that it would be removing language from Chapter 12 of the Medicare Claim Processing Manual regarding split/shared visits and other E/M topics. My understanding is that someone filed a petition against the language because there was not authoritative regulatory support for it, so CMS has had to remove it for the time being. Yesterday CMS released a statement (link below) that is supposed to be giving guidance on shared visits during the interim period while the language has been removed, but as usual the language in yesterday's CMS release seems cryptic and unclear. How do you interpret this? Are they saying that they are no longer recognizing shared visits and are only categorizing E/Ms as physician services or incident to midlevel services for the time being, until they issue further guidance on shared visits?
